Congress in Surankote

SURNKOT : A monthly meeting of the Congress party was convened today at Dak Bungalow in Surankote, drawing a significant gathering of senior leaders, office bearers, and workers from the Surankote Assembly constituency. The session was presided over by Shahnawaz Choudhary, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and DDC member for Surankote.The meeting extensively deliberated on the sluggish pace of developmental works, lack of basic amenities, and pressing public grievances within the Surankote Assembly segment. Congress workers unanimously protested against the Union Territory and district administration, accusing them of deliberately depriving the residents of Surnkote of essential services such as water, electricity, healthcare, employment, and other fundamental facilities.Addressing the gathering, Shahnawaz Choudhary stated, “Despite being a backward area, Surnkote continues to face persistent neglect, which is deeply regrettable and condemnable.” He asserted that the Congress party would continue its struggle at every level to safeguard the basic rights of the people and would not remain silent on public issues under any circumstances.Serious concerns were raised during the meeting regarding critical public issues, particularly water scarcity, erratic electricity supply, unemployment, and inflation. Speakers highlighted that the government had yet to fulfill promises made in its electoral manifesto such as providing free electricity, ration, gas cylinders, and employment leading to widespread disillusionment among the masses.The Congress workers strongly reminded the Jammu and Kashmir administration of its commitments, demanding immediate implementation of electoral assurances. Additionally, they reiterated the urgent demand for the establishment of a Government Medical College (GMC) in Poonch district to ensure better healthcare facilities for the region’s residents.The meeting also included detailed discussions on strategies to strengthen the party at the grassroots level, intensify public outreach, and actively involve youth in the political process.Prominent attendees included District Chief Spokesperson Advocate Sheraz Bajjar, Block Presidents Waheed Hussain Shah (Surnkot), Arif Manhas (Buffliaz), Rashid Kassana ( Lassana), Syed Arif Kazmi, Haji Rashid Kassana, retired ZEO Mumtaz Sahib, Azam Qazi Sahib, Haji Ashraf Malik, Haji Mohammad Ashraf, former Sarpanch Fazal Sahib, Faiz Akbar Chohan, youth leaders Shah Ahmed Shah, Asif Bajjar, Ijaz Chohan, Haziq Yaqoob, Aftab Mirza, and Ikhraz Malik, along with a large number of Congress workers and leaders.The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the party’s resolve to raise public issues on every available platform and continue the struggle until the people of Surnkot receive their due rights.
