Poonch, J&K: The Poonch encroachment drive has been initiated by the district administration with a seven-day ultimatum issued to remove illegal structures from Haji Market and Tandon Market.
In a firm move aimed at restoring public convenience and enforcing municipal laws, the Poonch district administration has issued a seven-day ultimatum to shopkeepers and property owners to remove illegal encroachments from Haji Market and Tandon Market.The notice has been issued by the Office of the Executive Magistrate First Class and Tehsildar Haveli, Poonch, Azhar Majid (JKAS), citing widespread violations of municipal and revenue norms that have resulted in obstruction of public pathways and inconvenience to pedestrians.According to the official notice, several shopkeepers and property owners have extended their establishments beyond the legally permissible limits, encroaching upon public land and footpaths. The administration observed that such unauthorized constructions have not only disrupted smooth movement in the busy market areas but also constitute a clear breach of existing laws.All concerned parties have been directed to remove the illegal structures within seven days from the date of issuance of the notice. The administration has made it unequivocally clear that failure to comply within the stipulated time will invite forcible removal or demolition of the encroachments without any further notice.The notice further states that any material removed during the drive will be seized, and the entire cost of demolition and clearance will be recovered from the defaulters as per law.Officials have emphasized that the action is being undertaken in the larger public interest, with the objective of ensuring unhindered pedestrian movement, improving urban order, and enforcing strict adherence to municipal and revenue regulations.The move has been viewed as part of the administration’s broader effort to streamline civic infrastructure and uphold the rule of law in congested commercial areas of the district.
