POONCH, APRIL 29: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Department of Social Welfare on Tuesday organised a Nasha Mukt Khel Mela at Government Higher Secondary School Sawjian, a remote border village in Tehsil Mandi, aiming to promote a drug-free lifestyle among youth through sports and community engagement.

The event witnessed active participation from dozens of students who competed in various sports activities, including volleyball, kabaddi, and track events. The initiative was designed to channel the energy of young people into constructive pursuits while raising awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior official from the Department of Social Welfare said, “Engaging youth in sports is one of the most effective ways to steer them away from substance abuse. Such programmes are especially important in border areas, where access to awareness initiatives is often limited.”

The Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Sawjian, while appreciating the effort, stated, “This initiative has not only encouraged our students to participate in healthy activities but has also sensitised them about the dangers of drug addiction. We hope such programmes continue in the future.”

Local residents also welcomed the events, noting that community-based initiatives play a crucial role in shaping positive behaviour among youth. They emphasised that regular engagement through sports and awareness campaigns can significantly contribute to building a healthier society.
