DC Poonch Reviews Security, Sanitation Ahead of Festivals

Multi-Faith Celebrations Prompt Comprehensive Preparations as Administration Seeks Public Cooperation for Communal Harmony

POONCH, Mar 12: The District Administration on Thursday reviewed security, sanitation and essential service arrangements ahead of a series of upcoming religious festivals in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma chaired a meeting with senior officers and representatives of religious organisations to assess preparedness for Shab-e-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, Navratri, Eid-ul-Fitr and Ram Navami.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Shafket Hussain Bhat, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, Assistant Commissioner Development Shakeel Ahmed Malik and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, along with officers from various departments, including the Municipal Committee, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology, and Fire and Emergency Services.

During the meeting, representatives of religious organisations and civil society highlighted several issues related to sanitation around places of worship, uninterrupted electricity supply, drinking water availability, traffic management, and adequate stocks of essential commodities during the festive period.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to ensure that necessary arrangements are in place well in advance. He asked the Municipal Committee to undertake special sanitation drives around major religious sites and public gathering areas.

The Power Development Department and the Public Health Engineering Department were instructed to maintain uninterrupted electricity and water supply, particularly in areas expected to witness large congregations.

The Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department was asked to ensure adequate availability of essential commodities and monitor distribution to prevent shortages.

Officials from the Legal Metrology Department and Food Safety authorities were directed to intensify market inspections to check overpricing and ensure the quality of food items being sold during the festive season.

Addressing the meeting, SSP Shafket Hussain Bhat said the police department would make necessary security arrangements at sensitive locations and places of worship. He said traffic management plans would also be implemented to regulate movement during peak hours of religious gatherings.

The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and maintain communal harmony during the upcoming festivals.

Officials said control rooms would remain operational during the festive period to respond to emergencies and public grievances.

The meeting concluded with officials reiterating the administration’s commitment to ensuring peaceful celebrations across the district.
