Poonch: SSP Poonch Reviews In a bid to further strengthen security arrangements in the border district of Poonch, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch conducted an inspection visit to the newly established Border Police Post in Salotri village, located close to the Line of Control (LoC). The visit was aimed at enhancing surveillance mechanisms in forward areas and assessing ground-level security preparedness.
The new Border Police Post has been set up by District Police Poonch as a strategic initiative to reinforce surveillance in the sensitive border belt, maintain effective control over the area, and enhance rapid response capabilities in the event of any exigency. Police officials stated that the establishment of this post marks a significant step towards strengthening the overall security architecture of the district.
During the visit, the SSP Poonch carried out a comprehensive review of the prevailing security scenario and interacted with the personnel deployed at the post. He closely assessed their operational readiness, evaluated potential threats linked to the terrain, reviewed the existing threat perception, and examined the effectiveness of surveillance and patrolling systems. On the occasion, the role of the Border Police Post in maintaining peace along the border and ensuring the safety of the local population was described as crucial.
Addressing the police personnel, the SSP emphasized the core principles of effective policing and underscored the importance of community policing. He directed the officers to maintain close coordination with the local population, highlighting that community support plays a vital role in crime prevention and in the timely gathering of actionable intelligence.
The SSP Poonch also stressed the need for stringent action against drug smuggling, terming it a serious social and economic threat, particularly in border areas. He further called for sustained vigilance and robust patrolling to thwart any potential infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control.
The visit served as a morale booster for the police personnel. According to police officials, Jammu and Kashmir Police remains fully committed to safeguarding the borders of Poonch district through modern infrastructure, a strengthened security grid, continuous training, and active public cooperation.
