Awareness Camp on Drug Abuse Held at GHSS Lasana Under ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’

POONCH, March 10: An awareness camp focusing on the dangers of drug abuse was organised at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Lasana on Tuesday as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. The programme was arranged by the District Information Centre of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Poonch, with the aim of sensitising students and the local community about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Surankote, Chaudhary Mohammad Akram, attended the programme as the chief guest and inaugurated the awareness camp in the presence of district and local officials.

Among those present were Sub-Divisional Magistrate Surankote Farooq Khan, District Information Officer Asaf Ali, Block Development Officer Lasana Qadeer Charak, Station House Officer Surankote Abid Bukhari, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Lasana Barkat Hussain, members of the school staff, local residents and representatives of civil society.

The programme featured cultural performances by artists from Saraswati Sangeet Kala Kendra, who presented songs in Gojri, Pahari, Hindi and Punjabi languages. A short skit portraying the social and health consequences of drug abuse was also staged to highlight the issue and encourage community awareness.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA spoke about the growing concerns surrounding substance abuse and emphasised the need for collective efforts to address the problem. He urged students and young people to remain aware of the risks associated with drugs and called upon the community to support initiatives aimed at promoting a drug-free society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate highlighted the importance of awareness programmes in educational institutions and communities. He noted that social and religious platforms can play a constructive role in spreading awareness and discouraging drug use among youth.

During the programme, informational pamphlets and posters outlining the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment were distributed among students and members of the public.

The event also included a pledge-taking ceremony in which participants reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug abuse and promoting a healthier society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Lasana, who expressed appreciation to the district administration and the Department of Information and Public Relations for organising the awareness initiative for students and the wider community.
