Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir: A controversial speech by a local cleric in Rajouri has sparked public outrage, prompting the Legal Wing to demand PSA action against the cleric in what is now widely discussed as the Rajouri cleric PSA demand. The cleric’s remarks, made during a recent address, contained unverified and contentious claims while directly targeting prominent scholars from Rajouri and Poonch.

During the speech, the cleric stated: “We are still alive to respond because the fatwa issued by Yazid had the backing of eighteen thousand muftis who sanctioned the killing of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). O clerics of Rajouri and Poonch! Speak as much as you want against this court, bark as much as you like—bark, speak—but we respond based on the light of the Quran and Hadith…”

The speech has sparked intense public dissatisfaction, with social media users sharing widespread criticism. Many commented that “even those without expertise in religious knowledge attempt to lecture scholars.”

Senior religious figures have condemned the speech as irresponsible and beyond ethical and religious limits. One scholar remarked:

“Differences of opinion among scholars may exist, but publicly undermining the dignity of the learned is unacceptable. Accepting unverified claims circulating on social media can be harmful.”

Adding to the controversy, Abdul Majid Khan, President of the Legal Wing of Jamat Ahl-e-Sunnat, Jammu, addressed the media, urging immediate action:

“This speech has not only undermined the credibility of local scholars but also attempted to disturb public peace. We demand immediate legal action against such disruptive elements, and if necessary, their detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) to maintain law and order in the region.”
