Zero Tolerance Against Terrorism: Properties of 310 Poonch Residents Identified for Attachment

WAR AGAINST TERRORISM

POONCH MIRROR: 7 JANUARY 2026

Poonch/:In a major security action reflecting a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with intelligence agencies, have identified 310 individuals from Poonch district whose properties are being attached for their alleged involvement in terror-related and other unlawful activities after illegally crossing the Line of Control (LoC).

According to official sources, the list has been prepared following an extensive verification exercise involving ground-level surveys, intelligence inputs, and scrutiny of financial and property records. While the identities of the individuals have not been made public, sources said that over the past three decades nearly 2,500 residents of Poonch crossed the LoC illegally to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) or further into Pakistan. Of these, 310 individuals have been found allegedly involved in activities detrimental to security.

Security officials stated that the identified individuals are accused of facilitating infiltration attempts across the LoC, aiding the smuggling of arms and ammunition, involvement in narcotics trafficking often through drones and attempting to radicalise local youth through various channels, including social media platforms. Some among them are reported to be active members or facilitators of banned militant outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Preliminary information suggests that a significant number of the identified individuals hail from the Mendhar, Surankote, and Sawjian areas of Poonch district. As part of the first phase of the action, around two dozen properties have already been attached. Sources added that 20 to 25 more properties are likely to be attached by January 26 after completing due legal procedures. The remaining assets will be proceeded against in a phased manner in accordance with the law.

Officials further said that agencies have observed repeated attempts by handlers operating from POJK and Pakistan to contact youth from the Poonch–Rajouri region through social media platforms with the intent to radicalise them. However, most such attempts have been thwarted through sustained monitoring and timely intervention.

Senior police officials reiterated that enforcement agencies are acting strictly within the framework of law and that such measures will continue to curb infiltration, terror financing, narcotics smuggling, and radicalisation efforts, with the objective of maintaining peace and security in the region.
