Jammu Boat Festival: The much-awaited Jammu Boat Festival was inaugurated on Wednesday evening at the Tawi Riverfront, marking the official opening of the newly developed artificial lake in the heart of the city.
The event attracted a large number of residents, including families, children and tourists. People gathered along the riverfront to witness the historic launch and enjoy free boating facilities in a festive atmosphere.
The two-day festival features boating activities, cultural performances and decorative lighting along the riverbank. The celebrations have added new vibrancy to the area and turned the riverfront into a major public attraction.

Officials said the artificial lake was created by retaining water through a specially built barrage, constructed in coordination with the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. The project was originally conceived in 2009 but faced several delays before reaching completion.
Senior officials, including Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, CEO Jammu Smart City Limited and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, and Deputy Commissioner Jammu Rakesh Manhas, attended the inauguration ceremony.
Jammu Boat Festival :Addressing the gathering, officials said the Tawi Riverfront will be further developed with additional facilities. These include commercial spaces, tourism-related activities and leisure zones to ensure long-term public engagement.
The Jammu Boat Festival will remain open to the public during scheduled hours, allowing visitors to experience boating while enjoying scenic views and cultural programmes along the river.
The inauguration of the festival marks a significant milestone in Jammu’s urban development journey. It reflects the city’s growing focus on sustainable infrastructure, public spaces and tourism promotion.
