Jammu, 7 April — Traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been suspended in both directions following a major landslide in the Digdol–Khooni Nallah stretch, officials said on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), National Highway, Raja Aadil Hamid, confirmed that heavy debris and falling rocks have completely blocked the road, forcing authorities to halt all vehicular movement between Jammu and Srinagar.

“The highway has been rendered impassable due to continuous landslides in the area,” Mr Hamid said, adding that the suspension applies to traffic from both sides as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have urged commuters to avoid travelling on NH-44 until the situation improves, warning that the route remains highly unsafe under current conditions.

Mr Hamid also advised the public not to rely on rumours and instead seek verified updates through official channels, including traffic police social media platforms and designated Traffic Control Units (TCUs).

Helpline numbers have been issued to assist travellers. In Jammu, commuters can contact 0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, or dial 103. In Srinagar, the numbers are 0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, and 103, while in Ramban, assistance is available via 9419993745 and 1800-180-7043.

Officials said that restoration work is underway, with teams deployed to clear the debris. However, there is no immediate timeline for reopening the highway.
