The debate over the proposed National Law University in Pirpanjal has triggered political reactions that expose deeper governance failures, misplaced priorities, and long-standing developmental neglect of the region.

In the wake of the recently held “Intellectual Meet” at Rajouri on the proposed establishment of a National Law University in the Pirpanjal region, a section of participants appears to have misconstrued my views expressed during the deliberations. The reaction has compelled me to place my perspective on record in a clear and detailed manner, in the larger public interest and for an informed debate on the issue.
My views on yesterday’s ” Intellectual Meet” at Rajouri , for establishment of the proposed NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY in Pirpanjal seem to have not been taken well by some of my participant friends. This has necessitated the explanation of my views on the subject in detail.
The abrupt jump-in gesture of some leaders from pirpanjal in the already piquant row over the establishment of the proposed university between Kashmir and Jammu speaks aloud of the reactionary politics in the region. Also does it hint at the commonality of interests of some leaders from variant shades.
The astonishing factor is that the leaders from ruling dispensations voice the most. Instead of convincing their political heads to announce the said University for pirpanjal region, which could calm the unrest between two fighting regions of Kashmir and Jammu, they chose to invite the public support against their own parties. Yes, this is also a way to stand for their region but for that, they should have tendered their resignations from their political parties and walked out to join the people in struggle for their rights.
Even if, the university is established in pirpanjal ( after their choice) , the number of students from pirpanjal shall be far less. Let my friends know that during the previous session , the number of students who qualified the National Entrance for Law Universities was less than the double digit from pirpanjal. National academia have their own laws and rules to function. The remaining number of students shall be from outside . How would it be of benefit for pirpanjal, I fail to understand .
The region has a host of issues, either pending or wanting , for which our leaders should have stood united to fight or should forge a strong bond to stand and fight ( after saying good bye to their respective parties).
To help them tailor a demand chart , I suggest them to prioritise and pick the issues of their choice;
1:- DECLARATION OF REGION/ PROVINCE STATUS , for Pirpanjal.
2:- CREATION OF MORE DISTRICTS FOR EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATION / REACH – OUT TO MITIGATE THE SUFFERINGS OF WAR BATTERED PEOPLE .
3:- STRENGTHENING OF BABA GHULAM SHAH UNIVERSITY by way of providing funds at par with other universities of the country.
4:- STRENGTHENING OF GOVT . MEDICAL COLLEGE RAJOURI by providing complete required infrastructure, Manpower to save the precious lives of the denizens of the region.
5:- TIME BOUND COMPLETION OF ” PARNAI” HYDEL PROJECT /INSTALLATION OF MICRO HYDEL PROJECTS , with provisions of electricity at concessional rates to the people of the border districts suffering the pangs of war incessantly.
6:- COMPLETION OF MINI SECRETERIAT RAJOURI , to make the opportunity of SERVICE UNDER ONE ROOF to the people . The work on this project has been abandoned since decades for no apparent reason.
7:- RAISING A SPECIAL PIRPANJAL BATALLION IN POLICE to provide the opportunities of employment to the youth having suffered the lack of facilities to continue education .
8:- – HUNDRED PERCENT INVESTMENT in the coaching of students preparing for competitive examinations form the region.
9:- SPECIAL ALLOWANCES TO THE EMPLOYEES FROM THE REGION AND THEIR EXEMPTION FROM INCOME TAX for rendering their services at the risk of their lives and that of their families.
10 :- EXPLORING AND EXPLOITING TOURISM POTENTIAL in the region and putting it on the world tourism map.
11:- EVOLVING SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE for the youth to compete at national and international level.
12:- RAISING ALTERNATE EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES FOR BORDER AREA STUDENTS to help them make up their educational loss during war, shelling and hard situations .
13:- SRENTHENING EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES IN RURAL AREAS by filling up vacancies in institutions on priority to enable the students to receive quality education to compete with other parts of the region / country , receiving stable , strong and quality education opportunities.
The number of issues of Pirpanjal is unending and offers endless opportunities for our leaders to stand, fight and make themselves stronger , indefeatable and everliving .
My humblest request to the leaders is that the innocent people of Pirpanjal region have already been deceived , exploited and fragmented on various pretexts over the ages. If we can’t get them some relief, we must avoid aggravating their pains.
