POONCH, March 7: The District Rent Assessment Committee (DRAC) on Saturday approved 10 rent assessment cases relating to government offices operating from private rented buildings in the district.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma, reviewed a total of 13 rent proposals submitted by various departments.
Following detailed scrutiny, the committee approved 10 cases that met the prescribed norms. However, two proposals were rejected for failing to comply with the existing rent assessment criteria.
Meanwhile, one case was deferred for further verification. Officials sought additional documentation and directed the concerned department to complete the necessary formalities before the proposal is reconsidered.
Moreover, the approved cases relate to several departments, including Education, Revenue, Health, AYUSH, Handloom, Handicrafts, Agriculture, the Child Development Project Office (CDPO), Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Animal and Sheep Husbandry, and the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM).
Consequently, the concerned departments will now be able to process rent payments to private building owners in accordance with the committee’s approval.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for timely payment of rent to property owners. He noted that delays often create financial difficulties and discourage owners from renting out buildings for government use. Therefore, he directed departments to complete all necessary formalities without unnecessary delay.
In addition, the DC stressed the importance of ensuring proper safety measures in government offices functioning from rented premises. He asked departmental heads to conduct regular inspections and ensure compliance with fire safety and other essential standards.
Among those present at the meeting were Assistant Commissioner Revenue Muhammad Sayeed, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Rakesh Sharma, officers from the Health, Education, Agriculture and Fire & Emergency Services departments, executive engineers, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer and other concerned officials. Private building owners were also present, and they participated in the deliberations.
Officials said the committee will continue reviewing pending rent proposals periodically to ensure timely disposal of such cases.
