Seventh Arrest in Jammu Drug Smuggling Case, Pistol Recovered

JAMMU, January 9:

The Jammu drug smuggling network came under intensified scrutiny on Thursday after police arrested a seventh accused and recovered a pistol during Operation Sanjivani, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on cross-border narcotics and arms trafficking.

The arrest was made under Operation Sanjivani, a sustained campaign launched by Jammu Police to dismantle organised drug syndicates with alleged cross-border links. Officials said the accused was actively involved in the supply chain and had connections with other arrested operatives.

Background of the Case

The Jammu drug smuggling network was first exposed on December 5, when police arrested six suspects and seized nearly five kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth around ₹30 crore in the international market. During that operation, three pistols were also recovered, confirming the nexus between drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling.

Cross-Border Links Under Scanner

Police sources revealed that the network maintained links with cross-border handlers and was working to destabilise law and order in the region. Investigators believe the recovered weapon was intended to protect narcotics consignments and intimidate rivals.

A senior police officer said investigations are being expanded to identify remaining associates, financiers and facilitators linked to the Jammu drug smuggling network.

“Raids are ongoing and more arrests are likely. All possible angles, including cross-border coordination, are being thoroughly investigated,” the officer said.

Zero Tolerance Against Drug-Weapon Nexus

Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy, police officials said operations against drug and weapon smuggling will be intensified, especially in border areas. The focus, they added, is to protect youth from drug addiction and prevent criminal networks from exploiting vulnerable regions.

Police officials said that sustained operations against the Jammu drug smuggling network are part of a broader strategy to curb the rising menace of narcotics in border districts. Special teams have been deployed to monitor movement along sensitive routes, while coordination with intelligence agencies has been strengthened to prevent the revival of such networks.
