According to official sources, the teenager was apprehended in the border district of Pathankot following intelligence inputs indicating his online interactions with individuals believed to be operating from across the border. The minor is reportedly a resident of the Samba district in the Jammu region.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the boy had established contact through social media platforms and messaging applications. Authorities claim that digital devices recovered from him contain chat records and call logs currently under forensic examination. Officials, however, have refrained from disclosing specific details, citing the sensitive nature of the ongoing probe.

Senior security officials said that while the accused is a minor, the case is being treated with seriousness due to its potential implications for national security. “The focus at this stage is to determine the extent of information shared, the nature of the handlers involved, and whether the minor was knowingly participating or was manipulated,” an officer familiar with the investigation said.

Investigators are also examining the psychological and personal background of the boy. Sources indicated that he may have been emotionally vulnerable, a factor often exploited by hostile elements to establish contact and influence behaviour online. These aspects are being independently verified as part of the inquiry.

Given the age of the detainee, legal proceedings are being conducted in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and the matter is being handled with due confidentiality. Officials emphasised that safeguarding the rights of the minor remains a legal obligation, even as security agencies assess wider ramifications.

Security experts note that the case highlights a growing trend in which minors are approached via digital platforms for reconnaissance or information gathering, underscoring the need for greater awareness among parents, schools and local communities in border and sensitive areas.

Authorities said investigations are continuing to ascertain whether the case has broader linkages or forms part of a larger network. Further details are expected to emerge once forensic analysis and questioning are completed.
