Senior Clerics Condemn Kalakote Broi Urs Controversy, Seek Action

Surankote, Poonch:The Kalakote Broi Urs controversy has sparked serious concern among senior clerics in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Strong objections were raised on Monday during a press conference held after Zuhr prayers at the Central Jamia Masjid, Surankote.

Objectionable Remarks at Kalakote Broi Urs

The Kalakote Broi Urs controversy began after a cleric allegedly made hurtful and offensive remarks during the Urs of Nanga Baji (RA) in Kalakote Broi, Rajouri.

The speakers described the language used at the religious gathering as irresponsible and unacceptable.

They stated that the remarks not only severely hurt the religious sentiments of the ulema of Rajouri and Poonch but also clearly violated the spirit of Islamic teachings and the principles laid down in Hadith.

Therefore،they said such remarks do not reflect Islamic teachings. They also warned that this kind of speech can damage social peace.

They clarified that describing scholarly explanations of Shariah rulings as “barking” was not merely an insult to individual scholars but a direct affront to Islamic ethics, prophetic manners, and religious decorum.

Clerics Share Their Concerns

Meanwhile, addressing the media, senior community members spoke with one voice. These included Tariq Ahmad Minhas, retired Headmaster Mohammad Bashir Paswal, and Abdul Hamid Minhas, President of the Central Jamia Masjid.

Furthermore, they stated that the remarks deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the ulema in Rajouri and Poonch.

According to them, such words clearly go against the spirit of Hadith and Islamic manners.

The speakers said the cleric used disrespectful words for scholars who speak against un-Islamic practices.

These include the use of drums and innovations during religious events.

They clarified that explaining Shariah rulings is the duty of scholars. Calling such guidance “barking,” they said, is an insult to Islamic ethics and prophetic conduct.

Instead of apologising, the cleric allegedly made further unproven claims on social media. This action, the speakers said, increased public anger and confusion.

They warned that such behaviour can create fitna. It can also disturb harmony among communities.
